Quantum Coherence in Photosynthetic Light Harvesting: Evidence from Vibronic Coupling at Physiological Temperature

Quantum Biology Society · in quantio, Daejeon
DOI: 10.xxxx/gqvl.2026.0001 · Received 25 Feb 2026 · Published 06 Mar 2026

We report femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy of the Fenna–Matthews–Olson (FMO) bacteriochlorophyll complex at physiological temperature (298 K), demonstrating persistent quantum coherence on timescales exceeding 300 fs. Beat-frequency analysis reveals long-lived vibronic coupling between excitonic states, supporting a quantum-assisted energy-transfer mechanism relevant to room-temperature photosynthesis.
