Ethics and Disclosures
npj Quantum Biology is committed to the ethical conduct of research and publication. We adhere to guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the ICMJE, and Nature Portfolio.
Research Involving Human Participants
Research involving human participants must have been carried out in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. Authors must state that appropriate IRB or ethics committee approval was obtained, and that written informed consent was secured from all participants where applicable.
Animal Research
Studies involving animal subjects must comply with the principles of the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) and applicable national legislation. Authors must state that their experimental protocols were approved by a recognized institutional animal ethics committee.
Authorship and Contributorship
All listed authors must meet the ICMJE authorship criteria: substantial contributions to conception or design, or acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; drafting or critically revising the work; final approval of the version to be published; and accountability for all aspects of the work.
Use of AI writing assistance tools in manuscript preparation must be disclosed in the Methods section. AI tools may not be listed as authors.
Dual Submission and Plagiarism
Manuscripts submitted to npj Quantum Biology must not be under simultaneous consideration at another journal. Substantial overlap with previously published work must be disclosed at the time of submission. All manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using CrossCheck/iThenticate prior to peer review.
Image Integrity
Digital images must not be manipulated in ways that misrepresent the original data. Adjustments to brightness, contrast, and colour balance are acceptable only if applied uniformly to the entire image and do not obscure or eliminate any feature.
Preprints
Authors may post preprints to recognised preprint servers (bioRxiv, arXiv, ChemRxiv) at any stage of the submission process. Authors are asked to update their preprint with a link to the published version upon acceptance.
